Legal steroids or the use of illegally obtained steroid supplements is a very plausible explanation, although as steroidsources.com points out, the allegations have been firmly denied by the actor in question.
Steroid Sources Reports On Latest Dustin Diamond Dustup: Steroids On Set Of Saved By The Bell?
Saved By The Bell stars used steroids, according
to Dustin Diamond in a steroidsources.com article. Diamond, who played the
awkward character “Screech” on the popular 90s TV show Saved By The Bell, is no stranger to
controversy. He turns up the heat with the release of his tell-all book, Behind
The Bell, chronicling the personal stories behind the cast of the sitcom,
including personal and sexual relationships, parties, recreational drug use and
the revelation that some of his costars on the show suddenly bulked up,
allegedly through the use of legal steroids or possibly even black market
steroid supplements.
Were legal steroids used by Saved By The Bell cast members, or did they
possibly seek out muscle-building supplements through the burgeoning black
market? Dustin Diamond, better known as “Screech,” isn’t saying whether the
steroids were legal or not, but in his recently released behind the scenes
expose of the show Behind The Bell, Diamond muses that costar Mark Paul
Gosselaar developed a very muscular physique within a suspiciously short period
of time while working with Diamond on the spinoff series Saved By The Bell: The
College Years. While it was likely not
possible to easily buy steroids online at this time, given the infancy of the
Internet and e-commerce capabilities in 1994, there would certainly have been
ample opportunity to purchase supplements through the black market. Gym culture
in many cities was at a stage where supplements and muscle enhancement drugs
were often bought and sold openly in locker rooms and parking lots. While
no-one has been able to obtain concrete proof that Gosselaar or any other cast
members actually used steroids, Diamond points out in the Steroid Sources
feature that: “He suddenly exploded with manliness, loading 25 pounds of muscle
on his once-scrawny frame in, oh, about a month.”
Diamond has been the subject of considerable online and tabloid scrutiny
himself, his reputation tainted by the release (allegedly accidental, but
frequently considered intentional) of a sex tape featuring himself, as well as
stories about his ongoing financial distress and a career that’s fallen to lows
like performing standup comedy in pizza parlors. Many have questioned the
timing of Behind The Bell’s release and sensationalist claims, given Diamond’s
apparent need to raise money.
Innuendo aside, while some males could bulk up in a relatively short time using
protein loading and a heavy weight lifting routine, the idea of someone who is
keeping the busy schedule of an actor working full-time on a series gaining
twenty-five pounds of muscle mass in only a month does seem unlikely. Legal steroids or
the use of illegally obtained steroid supplements is a very plausible
explanation, although as steroidsources.com points out, the allegations have
been firmly denied by the actor in question.
In the end, only one person can say for certain what the secret to Gosselaar’s
sudden growth spurt was, and whether he has ever opted to buy steroids online.
And that person isn’t Dustin Diamond, despite what he implies in Behind The
Bell.
