Steven Gerrard started his initial days of football playing for the Whiston Juniors. The Liverpool’s scouts noticed him at the tender age of 8 and then he joined the Reds in 1987.On November 1997, Gerrard signed his first professional contract with Liverpool for a payment of £700 a week. In his career so far, he has already won PFA young player of the year, PFA player of the year, European Mid fielder of the year, (Twice) Premier League Most Valuable Player and UEFA most valuable player. For his outstanding performances in the UEFA Champions League Final in 2005 and in 2006 FA Cup final, he has been awarded MBE. He has also been nominated for the FIFA player of the year for 205, 2006 and 2007.

Beckham had resigned from his post of captaincy, the entire Football fraternity had the belief and they wanted Gerrard to take on the heirs of England’s captaincy. But it was not to happen actually, Steve McClaren gave the captaincy to the Chelsea skipper, John Terry and appointed Steven Gerrard as the vice captain. Still, Gerrard had his opportunity of captaining the National team for the first time in a competitive match on 13th October, 2007.

Gerrard has also published his first autobiography called: Gerrard: My Autobiography, and launched this book on 01st September 2006. In this book he talks about his personal life, and his career in Liverpool and England. This book was awarded as the sports books of the year in the Galaxy British Book Awards.
