Currently owned by Franco Russian Alexandre Gaydamak, the Portsmouth Football Club is based on the south coast of Portsmouth. Portsmouth Football Club is also known as Pompey and they play in the Premier Leagues. John Brickwood, the owner of a local brewery, was the first Chairman with Frank Bretell as the Clubs first manager, when they first founded Portsmouth Football Club in 1898.

Recently, during the 1991-92 season, when Jim Smith arrived as the manger of the team, the fortunes of the team came back as well with Portsmouth Football Club reaching the semi finals of the FA cup. Then, during the 1996 season, Terry Venables joined he team as a consultant when the team enjoyed a successful run again to the quarter finals of the FA Cup in 1996-97 beating FA Premier League Side Leeds United on its way. After it arrived in the Premier League, Portsmouth Football Club finished at 13th, 16th and 17th positions in its first three seasons before it was taken over by Alexandra Gaydamak in January 2006. With available funds that time, the manager brought in big players under their roof, and eventually the club managed to finish among the top half of the table in the Premier League.

Portsmouth Football Club, a la Pompey, had its first jersey which was salmon pink in color with white shorts and maroon socks. Then, again in 1909, they changed to white shirts with royal blue shorts and socks. This was gain changed after a couple of years to Blue shirts, white shorts and black socks. Yellow and even more recently Gold has also been used as secondary colors on Portsmouth Football Club’s home shirts. The club has also briefly experimented with colors like Orange, Black, Salmon Pink, navy blue and also gold change strips.

Portsmouth Football Club crest is also derived from its city. The emblem consists of a gold star and crescent on a blue shield. The club plays its home games at Fratton Park in Portsmouth. This stadium was opened in 1998 and the total seating capaicyt is of 20, 600 while its pitch size is 115 multiplied by 73 yards.
